Tenth Anniversary of the Attack of September 11, 2001 Kings Domain, Melbourne Australia
A service was held today by the US Consulate General Melbourne and the Jewish Christian Muslim Assoc of Australia. The location was at the 9/11 Memorial Trees in Kings Domain, Melbourne that memorializes 2 Victorian victims of the 9/11 attacks. In 2005 the Victorian government planted two trees with plaques to remember Peter Gyulavary and Leanne Whiteside who died in the south tower of the World Trade Center.
The service was marked by addresses from Consul General Frank Urbancic and Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu. Prayers were offered by Reverend Ian Smith, Rabbi Shamir Caplan and Imam Sheik Abdi Nur Weli, and wreaths were laid by various government, church, and civic organizations. Nilusha Baeder provided vocal interludes during the service.
